Meet the team | Gian Paolo

Tell us about your role at Voltaware and how does your typical day look like.

My current role is Product Manager, but I’ve also worked and continue working as Product Owner depending on the project.

On a daily basis, you’ll see me taking care of the product backlog: creating tasks or bug cards, prioritizing the workflow, creating User Stories or any internal documentation page, making sure that all of our products are up and running. Also, testing new features that our developers have completed to make them available for our customers as soon as possible.

You can also find me on Google Meets or Microsoft Teams attending calls, either with our development team based in Brazil, in order to supervise the work that has been done, getting an overview of any issues we might have or any new features available to test. I also work with the business team by assisting them with any technical or product-oriented question that customers might have.

Did you have previous experience before Voltaware?

I started working at Voltaware as soon as I finished my double degree in Computer and Industrial Engineering, so I consider it as my first real job. However, while I was studying, I worked a few months during Summer in a plastic bag factory in order to understand the whole production process and find ways to improve it. I also assisted the department of scholar studies in my university, supporting them on digitalising students’ archives.

Why do you like working at Voltaware?

What I really like about working at Voltaware is that this company is always moving, always tackling new challenges, new ideas, new products - and all these while maintaining and upgrading our core products. It’s an extremely fast paced environment, where we meet lots of new clients, from any country, so speaking different languages is really useful here.

I like the fact that I work with people from different nationalities and backgrounds: engineering, business, even people that studied political science…

I also enjoy having responsibilities and from the moment I started working at Voltaware, I felt that I had the opportunity to do something great. Working at Voltaware for the past 5 years means that I am one of the seniors in the company, so I have to lead by giving a good example!

The mindset that prevails is that it’s ok if you make a mistake, you can always learn, improve and come back stronger.

What are your hobbies and interests outside work?

I really like outdoor activities, going to the mountains to walk large distances. It’s something I’ve always really enjoyed and now that I have a dog I do it even more frequently.

I’ve been running for a while now and I am currently training to do a half marathon in Bilbao (Spain) in October. We’ll see what comes next after that one!

I really love food so going out to try new restaurants or going back to our good old favourites in Madrid, where I live, is something I really enjoy doing with my wife as well as going out for coffees after lunch while strolling around the city.
