Meet the team | Antonio Lago
You may be familiar with our technology but do you know the brains behind it? Every now and then, we’d like to bring the Voltaware team closer to you and what makes who we are.
Meet Antonio Lago - our Senior Software Developer and a key member of the Voltaware Development Team. Antonio joined the team 8 years ago and contributed to guide the architecture of the system and to be a bridge between development team and business people. He shares his journey at Voltaware with us.

Can you tell us about your role at Voltaware and how does your typical day look like?
My role as a senior software developer is to support the development team, guide the architecture of the system and to be a bridge between development team and business people.
Throughout my day I have several meetings with technical teams and business people. In these meetings we discuss technical solutions to business propositions and new development efforts that will be supported by our product architecture. I review code, guide technical sessions and envision new technical improvements that we can work on.
How did you hear about Voltaware and what motivated you to join the team?
I met one of the senior members of Voltaware at the very beginning of the company and I have been introduced to the idea of energy disaggregation, something that I had never heard before, and found it fascinating, since then I joined the team to help create an amazing product for our customers.
How do you keep up with new data engineering technologies and can you apply them in your daily tasks?
Since my young age I was involved in computer programming, reading old programming magazines where the code was printed in magazine pages, very different from today's possibilities of learning. Now we have information everywhere, tutorials, digital books, videos, podcasts.
My main sources are big tech engineering blogs, conferences, open source news letters and good and old books. That helps me to know new tools and techniques that we can play and test and if it fits our needs we can apply it to the product architecture.
How are you keeping your team engaged and aligned towards the company goals?
What drives the development team is to see the product helping people and the environment and making our customers aware of their energy usage choices so they can opt to have a more conscious energy consumption pattern.
We also like to understand the best practices of the tech world, we keep learning new things and applying it to Voltaware product architecture, these are the main things I like to do to keep the team engaged in the company goals.
Can you tell us about your personal and professional goals this year?
My personal goals this year are to keep learning Italian and improve my photography skills learning to use a semi-professional camera. My professional goals are to keep improving the development team communication and collaboration and to drive them to deliver the best solutions for our customers.
What do you like to do outside work?
Outside of work I like to do many things when I have time, among them I like road trips, cycling, hiking and reading philosophy books.
